ABOUT

Pae Po’o – Hawaiian meaning To go head first.

Handcrafted in the heart of Santa Cruz, California, by Roger Knapp, Pocket Rocket Pai Po‘o Boards are a tribute to the rich heritage of Hawaiian surfing. We are continually inspired by the amazing master Harry Akisada and the magical boards he created.   We follow a multi-step build with over 30 separate procedures for every board.  plywood, Marine ply cork, epoxy  are vacuum pressed and modern water based finishes crafted by hand, honoring the traditional Pai Po‘o design while striving towards durabiity, and performance.

The resulting Mini Pae Po’o boards offer a unique sensation of speed and power from inside the wave. The thrill of manuvering through in the steepest part of the wave makes even small wave riding a refreshing and rewarding experience.  By blending time-honored techniques with a modern craftsman’s touch, our boards celebrate both the history and a more minimal approach to the future of surfing.  At a time when  SUP’s Foils, Kites, Wing foils s are taking riders further away from the wave, pae po’o offer a way back into the water headfirst, with the power of the wave against your belly.

Whether displayed as a piece of functional art or carving through waves in the lineup, a Pocket Rocket Pai Po‘o Board is built to connect you to the ocean, its traditions, and the timeless thrill of the ride.
